Magdalena Ortolani

Currently based in Sidney, Australia.

Magdalena Ortolani works in abstraction as a way of giving form to what is felt before it can be named — a language built from intuition, emotion and presence.

Her path into art began after four years studying Architecture. What emerged wasn’t a departure but a deepening: a move away from imposed structure and toward instinct, materiality and expression.

Art became the space where gesture, texture and silence could exist on their own terms.

Working largely self-taught, Magdalena explores natural and raw materials — coffee, earth, stone, pigment, oil — not as tools but as living substances with their own histories and weight.

Layers accumulate slowly, shaped by spontaneity, until each composition holds both intention and accident. Process and outcome carry equal meaning.

Her work moves between presence and memory, tension and quiet. Imperfection is not incidental — it is the point: a form of honesty that keeps each surface alive with traces of movement, emotion and time.

The practice continues to evolve through travel, shifting landscapes and an ongoing conversation between inner experience and the physical world.
